Antigua Matanza is a publication of the Junta de Estudios Históricos de La Matanza, a dependency of the Secretaría de Extensión Universitaria of the Universidad Nacional de La Matanza. It was created with the aim of disseminating original scientific knowledge in the field of History, specifically in the field of regional history. The publication is presented as an open-access academic journal, immediately available to the entire community, in Spanish, and published twice a year.

The articles submitted will be read by the editorial committee to verify the relevance of the general theme of the journal and compliance with the editorial regulations; and evaluated by the scientific committee, based on a double-blind peer review system to decide on the academic quality and originality of the ideas proposed by the authors.

The journal will include research results, research reports, scientific communications, among other texts related to the development of Regional History. A specific section is planned for the dissemination of materials that have the district of La Matanza and its history as an object of study, as it is the area of insertion and impact of the National University from which this journal is published. On the other hand, the macro-region that subsumes Latin American and/or Ibero-American countries is included among its contents.

This editorial proposal is completed with scientific communications and reports on heritage, historical culture and memory; and the reconstruction of regional histories with special detail in the search for sources, understanding this concept in a broad way, overcoming the predominance of written documentation.

Finally, a space is reserved for book reviews, state of the art and alerts about publications related to the area of interest.

The journal is aimed at trained and trainee history researchers in particular, and in the humanities and social sciences and professionals interested in the defense of cultural and natural heritage, in general.

The management of the journal is regulated by the Program of Periodic Scientific Publications of the Secretaría de Ciencia y Tecnología of the Universidad Nacoinal de La Matanza (San Justo, Argentina).

It is worth mentioning that this journal continues the path begun by the Carta Informativa de la Junta de Estudios Históricos de La Matanza, which had a wide circulation and recognition from the scientific community in its field, having been published for 16 years without interruption. This is the legacy that this publication receives and that is expected to increase, while preserving the editorial excellence of its predecessor.
